Methane is one of the main greenhouse gases contributing to global warming. Individual methane emission of cattle is a novel trait, that gains importance in sustainable cattle breeding programes.
Recording individual methane emission on a large scale is expensive and labour intensive. Research projects are currently being carried out to investigate and evaluate the accuracy and feasability of different recording techniques including phenotypic analysis of the methane trait and followed by genetic analysis to determine the genetic background.
The workshop aims to bring interested stakeholders, scientists and technicians together working in the field of recording and anlysing individual methane emission of cattle. The aim is to share experience and hands-on tips about how to record individual methane emission, phenotypic and genetic analysis of different methane phenotypes.
The workshop is organised by the ICAR Feed and Gas Working Group.
