DNA Working Group

Objectives

  1. Forum. Provide a forum for members of ICAR to collaborate, exchange information and learn from each other on all aspects using the DNA of farm animals.
  2. Guidelines. Maintain, update, promote and extend universal guidelines for laboratory techniques, data analysis techniques and tools for using the DNA of farm animals world-wide.
  3. Surveys. Conduct and report the results of periodic international surveys on the use of DNA of farm animals.
  4. Services. Develop, provide and promote user-pay services for the accreditation of systems for using DNA of farm animals. The goal of these services is to ensure that uses of DNA of farm animals are accurate, comparable around the world and shared efficiently.
  5. Innovation. Facilitate and co-ordinate international collaboration in research and development on the uses of DNA of farm animals.

ICAR accreditation for laboratories for SNP-based and/or for STR-based genotyping in cattle

ICAR annually accredits laboratories for SNP-based and/or for STR-based genotyping services in cattle.

The rules and instructions for laboratory accreditation for “Microsatellite based genotyping” and “SNP genotyping” in cattle are available here. For both of the above accreditation, applicants have to provide the ISAG membership number and any other certification has to be provided/translated into English.

The list of accredited laboratories for genotyping in cattle is available here. ICAR reminds that the accreditation is valid for two years.

ICAR accreditation for organisations as DNA Data Interpretation Centres

This accreditation service allows organisations wishing to carry out SNP-based parentage analysis services to be accredited by an independent third party (ICAR). Organisations wishing to be a service user of GenoEx-PSE, must first receive the ICAR Accreditation for DNA Data Interpretation Centres. More information about this accreditation are available here.

The list of the laboratories that have already been granted with the ICAR Accreditation as Data Interpretation Centres for SNP-Based Parentage Verification is available here.
